What is distance to spot ratio?
The distance to spot ratio is the ratio of distance from the target to the size (diameter) of the target to be measured. In other words, an 8:1 distance to spot means from a distance of 8 inches you will be measuring the average temperature of a spot that is 1" in diameter. 30:1 distance to spot would allow you to measure the average temperature of the same 1" diameter spot from a distance of 30 inches away.
