Fieldpiece SC67 Manual Ranging Clamp Meter with Temperature to 1000ºF - A Pure DMM for HVAC/R
So you’re not into accessory head instruments but still want a great meter design for HVAC/R, the SC67 is a great choice. It’s a manual ranging clamp on meter that includes most of the electrical ranges you use for HVAC/R plus temperature, up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit with a compatible k-type thermocouple, for a great price. It also has several safety features like a high-voltage LED and beeper, a continuity warning, push button non-contact voltage (NCV), a lead holder on the clamp, and MAX hold so you can concentrate on the test point, hook up, and see the results after you’ve disconnected. It also includes capacitance (MFD) for checking motor-start and motor-run capacitors and microamps DC for flame diode tests. Techs tell us It’s a solid performer for everyday HVAC/R testing.
The SC67 is a manual ranger with a dedicated amp clamp. Use the NCV button to determine whether on not a wire or circuit is live. The high-voltage indicators alert you when hooking up to 30V or more, while the continuity indicators tell you if a circuit is open or closed. Operation of the SC67 is easy. Simply select a range and test.
Features and Benefits
Designed specifically for HVAC/R field service, the SC67 is a dedicated DMM and offers specific features and benefits to HVAC/R field service pros including:
Non-contact Voltage
With the NCV tab on the tip of the clamp close to an AC voltage, press and hold the NCV button. The NCV LED will light with an analog feel and the beeper will beep. The closer you get to AC voltage, the louder the beep. The NCV function is sensitive enough to detect 24VAC on thermostats (24V to 600V, 50Hz to 60Hz).
High Voltage and Continuity Indicators
If you were doing lab testing, these features would probably drive you crazy. We’ve heard from more than one HVAC/R veteran that these features really remind you of what you’re doing and they’ve avoided potentially dangerous situations in the field. The Hi-V LED and beeper let you know when you’ve hooked up to a circuit over 30V. The continuity LED and beeper tells you if a circuit is open or closed.
200AAC
Using the built-in amp clamp, read 0-200 amps directly on your meter with 0.1 resolution.
Capacitance (MFD)
Measure microfarads on motor-run and motor-start capacitors using this range. Disconnect the capacitor from power first. Short the terminals to discharge the capacitor. Disconnect any resistors that might be between the terminals of the capacitor and measure to check for degradation.
Temperature
Take ambient air or refrigeration line temperatures and more with the built-in K-type port and the included ATB1 wrap tab thermocouple. The built-in temperature junction offers great temperature compensation for more accurate and faster measurements,
Microamps DC - Flame Rectification Tests
The most common ‘no heat” call has to do with a malfunctioning flame sensing diode. Simply turn the meter to microamps DC, hook up, and see if the flame sensing rod is functioning properly.
Silicone Leads
Because the wire insulation is silicone, the leads stay flexible in cold weather and will not melt if bumped by a soldering iron. Use the attached lead clip on the to help you perform a one-hand test more easily than most meters on the market. Built-in lead storage makes it easy to keep everything together from job to job. Our Deluxe Silicone Lead Kit, model ADK7, is an optional purchase from your favorite distributor and makes one-handed testing even easier.
Wire Grabbing Jaw
The fixed jaw is longer than the moveable jaw to make it easier to select just one wire from a bundle. With the jaws closed, separate one wire using the long fixed jaw. Slide it to the corner where the two jaws meet. Then open the jaws to let it in. Now you can select the wire without holding the jaws open
MAX Hold
The MAX hold button is easily pressed while holding the mini clamp meter naturally in your hand. It holds the maximum reading when hooking up to a test point. It’s a safer way to test, so you can concentrate on the test points and look at the LCD after you’ve disconnected.
And More:
- Volts AC.
- Volts DC.
- Resistance (Ohms).
- Diode Test
- Rugged ABS case.
- Ergonomic shape fits naturally in your hand.
- Auto power-off (APO) to conserve battery life.
A lot of guys in the field just want a meter. A meter designed for the way that they work. The SC67 is our answer. It has ranges high enough for most HVAC/R field tests at a great price. Because it’s a Fieldpiece, it’s rugged, feels solid and naturally fits in your hand.
We designed this meter to be a dedicated clamp meter for HVAC/R for the field technicians who want a great clamp meter but prefer standalone instruments to accessory heads when testing other parameters. Its ranges are more limited than the top of the line clamp meters we sell. However, new technicians and veterans alike tell us that of all the dedicated clamp meters out there, they know the SC67 was designed for them, HVAC/R technicians, from the moment they pick it up.
